Tarocco Red Orange (Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck)
It is produced in the eastern part of Sicily, specifically in the Etna region, where the soil is particularly fertile and the climate is characterized by being dry with significant temperature variations between day and night. These unique climatic conditions favor the biochemical process that produces a higher amount of anthocyanins, responsible for the typical coloration, compared to all other varieties of oranges. The merits of the red orange are attributed both to its nutritional qualities (it contains many minerals and vitamins) and to the presence of various bioactive compounds, including polyphenols, flavonoids, and carotenoids, which, in synergy with anthocyanins, provide a powerful antioxidant and protective action. Additionally, Tarocco red oranges have 40% more vitamin C than blonde oranges.
Mandarin (Citrus reticulata Blanco)
Sicilian mandarins, like most citrus fruits, are rich in beneficial properties for our body. In addition to containing a high amount of vitamin C, which strengthens the immune system and helps us fight seasonal illnesses, Sicilian mandarins are an excellent source of potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, and vitamins such as B1, B6, B9, and A.
Etna Lemon (Citrus limon (L.) Osbeck)
