Prickly Pear (Opuntia ficus indica (L.) Mill.)
The prickly pear is an energy-boosting fruit that provides good quantities of minerals and vitamins. The pulp contains calcium, phosphorus, and potassium, as well as magnesium, sodium, copper, zinc, and selenium. The main vitamin is vitamin E, but there are also good levels of vitamin A, vitamins B1, B2, B3, and B6, along with antioxidants such as beta-carotene, flavonoids, lutein, and zeaxanthin. It also contains essential amino acids, which are fundamental protein-building blocks for our body. Additionally, it is an excellent source of taurine, an essential amino acid that helps build proteins efficiently and can help prevent conditions ranging from heart disease to muscle deterioration.
Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.)
Pomegranate is renowned for its biological potential attributed to the presence of polyphenols such as tannins, anthocyanins, flavonoids, organic acids, and phenolic acids like gallic acid and ellagic acid, which provide powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
Amaranth (Amaranthus caudatus L.)
Amaranth, a pseudocereal with a low glycemic index and gluten-free, is renowned for its richness in complete proteins, essential amino acids, and soluble fibers, which promote cardiovascular and digestive health.
